This is a collaborative research tool for mushroom identification. You keep all rights to your photos and data. Your images and mushroom observations will be visible to other registered users for comparison and identification purposes. We don't sell your data or claim ownership of your images.

By using this service, you agree that other users may view your uploaded images and data to aid in mushroom identification and research.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using MRDBID (Mushroom Research Database Identification), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use this website.

2. Service Description

MRDBID is a research and educational tool designed for:

  • Documenting and organizing mushroom observations
  • Identifying fungi using morphological characteristics
  • Comparing specimens to aid in identification
  • Educational and research purposes

3. Your Content and Image Rights

You Retain Ownership

You retain all ownership rights to the images and data you upload. MRDBID does not claim any ownership, copyright, or other proprietary rights to your photographs, observations, or other content.

Limited License for Service Operation

By uploading images and data, you grant MRDBID a limited, non-exclusive license to:

  • Store your images on our servers
  • Display your images to you in your account
  • Display your images to other registered users for identification and comparison purposes
  • Process images for identification features (thumbnails, comparison tools, EXIF extraction)
  • Allow other users to view and compare your mushroom observations and images to aid in identification

📌 Important: This is a collaborative identification tool. Your uploaded images and mushroom data will be visible to other registered users to facilitate comparison and identification. Images are not private within the community.

What We DO NOT Do

MRDBID will NOT:

  • Sell, license, or distribute your images to third parties outside the platform
  • Use your images for commercial purposes
  • Claim copyright or ownership of your content
  • Share your images publicly outside the registered user community
  • Alter your original images (except for display purposes like thumbnails)

4. Data Visibility and Privacy

Community-Based Identification Platform:

MRDBID is a collaborative mushroom identification and research tool. Your uploaded mushroom images and observation data are visible to other registered users to facilitate:

  • Species identification through comparison
  • Learning from documented specimens
  • Research and educational purposes
  • Building a shared knowledge base

Personal information protection: Your email address, account details, and other personal information remain private and are not shared with other users.

You can export your data: Use the "Backup My Images" feature to download all your images and metadata at any time.

Account deletion: If you delete your account, your images and data will be permanently removed from our servers in accordance with standard data retention practices.

5. Your Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Only upload images that you own or have permission to use
  • Not upload images that violate others' copyright or intellectual property rights
  • Use the service for lawful purposes only
  • Provide accurate information when registering
  • Keep your account credentials secure

6. Important Safety Disclaimer

⚠️ NEVER consume any mushroom based solely on identifications from this website or any online tool.

Mushroom identification is complex and potentially dangerous. Many edible mushrooms have poisonous look-alikes. This tool is for research and educational purposes only.

Always consult with qualified mycologists and use multiple authoritative sources before consuming any wild mushroom. MRDBID and its operators are not responsible for any consequences resulting from mushroom identifications or consumption decisions.

7. Limitation of Liability

MRDBID is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We do not guarantee the accuracy of identifications or data
  • We are not liable for any data loss (though we implement backups)
  • We are not responsible for decisions made based on information from this site
  • We are not liable for any damages arising from use of this service

8. Service Availability

We strive to keep MRDBID available and functional, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time with or without notice. We recommend regularly exporting your data as a backup.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of MRDBID after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
